New Kitchen

So, I don’t hate it. I also don’t love it. It’s a little, kinda, sorta…blue… Right? I was going for a grayish/charcoalish hue, but I guess I got cold feet at the last minute and went a little lighter than intended, but blue? Despite my Mom and Luby, I really don’t believe that dark colors will make a room smaller, so normally gray doesn’t scare me, but I think our galley style kitchen makes me second guess. Well, it’s going to stay for a while, but I’m sure it will end up white by the end of the year. In the meantime, here is round two…

My Dreamsicle Kitchen

I’ve had kitchen on the brain all week and I think the orange has got to go. I am guilty of pushing the color in the first place, but I will admit - it was a mistake. I thought it would look nice against the bright while walls and black floor, but it never really came together. I was thinking of doing all white, turquoise or lime. I will eventually put something on the wall. Maybe some shelves or a small cabinet. *The brass plate on the wall is the “central station” for the house intercom. It plays music and controls all the rooms (including the bathroom) speakers.* I will post some inspiration photos later, but in the meantime, any suggestions would be oh, so helpful!

My Geneva Kitchen

When we were going through the house to prepare for our estate sale, we found the original brochure for the Geneva cabinets in the kitchen drawer. We have since painted them glossy white, but originally they were brown and yellow - exactly as shown in the first photo. We now have the brochure on the fridge as a fun reminder.

This is how our cabinets looked when we bought the house.

Pink and Turquoise are a great match too!

We made sure not to paint over the original label.

Kitchen Rehab

After selling my boyfriend’s Victorian 4-story home in the Tower Grove area of St. Louis, we purchased a 1950’s ranch in Crestwood. I was 8 months pregnant and living in a hotel while looking for our dream ranch. We found our house the day it came on the market and offered full price and in “as-is” condition including all the contents. In total desperation to have the house complete before my due date, we had an estate sale a week later to remove everything from the previous hoarder-owner. Once everything was sold, donated and cleaned-out, rehab began. The kitchen was one of my favorite projects.

Yup, that’s a trash can on the left. My boyfriend insists on keeping it even though it takes up a ridiculous amount of space and is directly in front of the pantry. Pretty neat-o though, I must say.
