My House
Office Space
Well, we finally got our office in order. Since my boyfriend and I both work from home, we need to share our work space. We found facing desks was the best layout for optimizing the small room. At first, I wasn’t crazy about his chunky oak library desk, but seeing it against my cobalt blue and chrome desk, it actually works. We finally found another Aeron chair at an estate sale (I took his when we moved in together). Being a selective Ikea fan, the bookcase grew on me after we used it for about a year as a headboard-see last picture. The windows still need something though. I think I’m going to go with a roller shade from the Dwell line via The Shade Store.
The “Anna” was a present from Luby. He made it from a 1950’s doctors sign. I saw it at an auction and thought the font was great. He went back and bought it and put it together for me. What a great surprise!
Sorta hard to see the bookcase, but this is the only picture I could find of the old bedroom. The bed frame is from West Elm. I really miss having the bookcase there, but the new bedroom is unfortunately, a bit smaller.
Living Room Windows
I am in desperate need of some suggestions for our living room windows! Curtains? Blinds? Shades? Our neighbors are so tired of looking at us! They actually call our house “The Airport” because of all the lights we normally have on…
More House Rehab
Since Luby and I were already living in a hotel when we bought our house, we went ahead and rehabbed the whole house at once. I thought I would show you what we have done so far. Any house is a work in progress, but the big ticket items are complete-floors, walls, roof, electrical, and most appliances. The house has a very open floor plan, so the living room opens to the sitting room which is also the dining area. The recessed lighting and the plywood walls are all original. Most homes in the area originally had these features, but were torn out years ago by most buyers. We were one of the lucky ones who scored!
AFTER
Eichler Numbers
I ordered these Eichler house numbers and they look amazing! We had to replace the mailbox, light-post, outdoor house light and house numbers. I thought I would show you how great these are! They are about $25 per number. Our house has 5 digits, so it was $90. You can order from Eichler
If anyone knows where to get a nice modern mailbox, please let me know - I have been looking for months!
Samson Rocket’s Nursery
Just a few pictures of my little one’s nursery. At the time, I was in love with the Dwell line at Target that just came out, so the decals are everywhere. Sam seems to like them, so we will probably keep them for a while.
I bought this “S” from a yard sale for $5. It was actually form a super nice gal who recently bought something from me. I totally love it and is probably one of my favorite pieces in his room. I bought the paper tiger at an estate sale a few months ago. It was buried under a nasty rug and was in surprisingly great shape. My boyfriend found the companion pieces (elephants, camels, etc) stacked between posters in another room. We are saving the other ones for a later date.
I couldn’t figure out what kind of chair I wanted for nursing. I tried all the modern reproduction rockers and gliders, but all were either too expensive, way uncomfortable or just pain ugly. I eventually found this chair while on a shopping trip. I bought it out of a trailer home in Arkansas for $10. No joke. It was badly scratched up, no cushion and the fabric was shot. I initially bought it to re-sell, so I had it reupholstered. When I got the chair back I fell in love with it. It is super soft and so comfy. I don’t miss having a rocker at all. The seat is deep and the back high, just what I was looking for.
So, I’m not sure I recommend the Dwell line from Target. We have the crib and matching changing table. As you can see, the drawer on the left is on the floor. They are safe, but somewhat jankey. That drawer has fallen out like 3 times, so I am resigned to having it stay there. Anyway, the green bouncer is awesome and worth the $80 from Babies R Us. You can plug your IPod into it which is a neat feature, although I can’t say I’ve done it yet. Sam loves the vibrate and it is way sturdier than it looks.
This is another one of my favs. This was a shower gift from our friends “The Merkels” The chime is so sweet and timeless. I love seeing it through the window.
Just a shot of our favorite toys for Sam. The sock elephant was a gift from my Mom. I first spotted it while shopping with her and Luby in an antique mall way before I was even pregnant. She surprised me with it last month. So happy it was still there! The Mighty Mouse was a Christmas gift to Luby from me. He had it in his dresser forever, so I had it dry-cleaned and framed. The back side is a cape! How awesome is that?
Some close-ups of his growth chart I bought from eBay. Love the illustrations.
I bought the vintage baby scale from an estate sale last month. It was brand new with the box! I was so excited. I’ve been wanting one for a while, but every time I come across them, the thought of buying them used was a bit gross. Seems a little silly, but I just can’t wait for his check-ups to see how much he weighs. FYI, he’s in the 95th percentile for height AND weight.
