Modernist Art
I bought this at an auction a few days ago. By commercial artist Joseph H. Shepherd aka “Shep”. I bought about five pieces all together, but this is my favorite one. I don’t have much information about him, but if anyone else does, please let me know! See the close up of the green modern house? Neat-o.
Weekend Score
Didn’t find too much this weekend, but I did get a fabulous 50’s lamp! Not sure where I am going to put it yet, maybe Samson’s nursery since it has an animal theme. I wish the shade was fiberglass, but the design is just so great. The animals are sculptured wood with painted white eyeballs. So simple!
My Dresser
I like stuff. I am having a harder and harder time editing these days. I don’t actually keep these jacks on the dresser, but I do keep two in the bedroom, two in the office and one in the living room - and if I found 10 more, I’m sure I would find a place for them too. I wanted to sell the large silver one today, but it’s probably best that I don’t go into it. Anywho, I just love these jacks and wanted to know if anyone else has these and what they do with them. They have been bookends, paperweights, and space fillers for me. I know they are typically attributed to George Nelson, but I’m not really sure who originally designed them.
Office Space
Well, we finally got our office in order. Since my boyfriend and I both work from home, we need to share our work space. We found facing desks was the best layout for optimizing the small room. At first, I wasn’t crazy about his chunky oak library desk, but seeing it against my cobalt blue and chrome desk, it actually works. We finally found another Aeron chair at an estate sale (I took his when we moved in together). Being a selective Ikea fan, the bookcase grew on me after we used it for about a year as a headboard-see last picture. The windows still need something though. I think I’m going to go with a roller shade from the Dwell line via The Shade Store.
The “Anna” was a present from Luby. He made it from a 1950’s doctors sign. I saw it at an auction and thought the font was great. He went back and bought it and put it together for me. What a great surprise!
Sorta hard to see the bookcase, but this is the only picture I could find of the old bedroom. The bed frame is from West Elm. I really miss having the bookcase there, but the new bedroom is unfortunately, a bit smaller.
Great Finds
While shopping for window treatments, I found out Dwell Studio collaborated with The Shade Store. It’s not something I want for my large picture windows, but for the bedroom, nursery, office? I just love them. The roller shades are so clean and simple. Seems like any pattern will work in the right setting. I don’t really care for cornices, but Dwell makes them look pretty sharp, as usual.
I also got tipped off about a New Zealand company that offers great modern mailboxes, house numbers and letters. I think I’ll be ordering the red one soon. Or maybe the black. Or the green. For the box, post and flag it runs about $200 plus shipping.
