New Curtians

After countless hours of internet shopping, an hour looking for the right pole, three trips to the store, and two hours of labor, the curtains are hung! I originally wanted white bottom to top shades, but since we are getting new windows next year, I didn’t want to invest in custom made shades just yet. I’m pretty sure I say this about everything, but do you know how expensive window treatments are?! I needed 97″ long x 110″ wide for EACH panel - yikes! I chose Pottery Barn’s silver Dupioni Silk Drapes because they had the best color selection for that size. At the moment I am very into a muted color pallet, but I do have my eye out for a colorful rug to bring the room together. Next project: degreasing the window hardware to make them shiny and bright!

  1. Gorgeous! I love them - pale and slightly shimmery - nice choice!

  3. Like the look - compliments the overall MCM look of the room. And I like how you went to the ceiling with them.

  7. I feel your pain on this one! I think my wife and I are on our 3rd set of curtains for our front windows, because it is tough to get it right. Our windows are just as wide, and when you have that big of drapes, they have to be perfect otherwise they look horrible. We tried a pattern first and it was just too much pattern.

I wish ours could go to the ceiling like that, but we have exposed beams on our vaulted ceiling, so they hang lower.

I think it looks really good!

  9. I am loving watching you change these rooms.
I think the Dupioni drapes right to the ceiling are the perfect choice. I can’t wait to see what you do with the floor!

PS When we moved countries in 1995 I was forced to throw out a sideboard very similar to yours. It wasn’t signed but still very nice. It was before mid century style had really made a comeback and I think I had originally paid about $10 for it. I still mourn that sideboard :-(

  11. perfect!

I want curtains like that in my living room in gold, but I have two huge wall of windows (8ft tall) and I can’t sew. :(

  13. Thanks for the comments! I am enjoying them and it does keep the cold air out of our single pane windows! I did mess with patterns, but it was just too much for the room. I was back and forth with going to the ceiling (mainly because it doubled the price), but I’m glad I splurged. I do need the confirmation because it took forever to decide!

  17. Pretty neat redo Anna! Miss not seeing you all lately! How’s the little guy? I don’t have any window treatments in my house at all…..you might make me rethink that!

  19. I’m thinking about getting these same drapes for my new house. There is a traverse rod already in my living room that I’m planning on using instead of taking it down and buying a rod. Did you use hooks to hang these? And if not, do you know if drapery hooks will work with these drapes? Thanks for your help!
