More House Rehab

Since Luby and I were already living in a hotel when we bought our house, we went ahead and rehabbed the whole house at once. I thought I would show you what we have done so far. Any house is a work in progress, but the big ticket items are complete-floors, walls, roof, electrical, and most appliances. The house has a very open floor plan, so the living room opens to the sitting room which is also the dining area. The recessed lighting and the plywood walls are all original.  Most homes in the area originally had these features, but were torn out years ago by most buyers. We were one of the lucky ones who scored!

  1. I Just love your home. The cabinet for your toy collection is a “must have”. The wooden panel, the red chair, the dining chairs… pow! Thanks for showing it, it’s so inspiring!

  3. wow! your house is gorgeous! i’m in love with your wood paneling! did you have to do much work to restore the wood?

  5. Could you tell me about the greyhound statue? Must have it!

  7. Thanks so much! We didn’t have to do anything to the wood paneling. Just some good ol’ lemon oil cleaned it right up! So happy it was untouched! Most of the homes in the area are rehabbed fully, so we are the only ones with the paneling still up. The greyhound was from n antique store here in St. Louis, but my 3 month old will be walking within the year, so I think it will be for sale shortly…

  9. Really? (And thanks for the nice comment … my blog is like a desert island at the moment.) I’d be interested if you really do want to sell it. Please keep me in mind. My greyhound may fall in love with it …

  11. I love the lightboxes in the living room. Are they original, or did you buy and install them? Or a DIY?

  13. I found your blog via PoppyTalk and love it! My husband and I also own a early 1950’s Ranch Style home and have very much enjoyed living in it and working on it as well. Your house looks amazing - love the recessed lighting!

  23. Thanks for checking me out! Most of the tikis were from our trip to Hawaii this year. The big one is from an estate sale here in St. Louis.

  29. Are there flourescent lightbulbs in the light boxes? I have a wood paneling living room that needs some light. I’d like to do some similar light boxes as an alternative to recessed eyeball lighting, which is kind of harsh. I’d love to get more info about yours, specs, etc. Thanks!

  31. Hi! Thanks so much! Actually, the recessed lighting is original to the house. I wish I could create that, but all I did was paint them white. The lights are florescent. I guess they could be pretty simple to make with a wood frame around the blub housing, but these were original to the house. Thanks for your comments!

  37. Hi there! The bookshelf is made by Paul McCobb. The line is “planner group”. The best place to look would be eBay. Good job on the estate sale find!
